I agonized over whether to get the Swine flu vaccines for my kids. Eventually I decided to err on the side of caution. My 7 year old daughter was able to get the flu mist vaccine at school. However, my 4 year old has not had any access to the vaccine. He cannot receive the mist because he is prone to wheezing and there have been no shots available at the doctor offices.
This morning he woke complaining that his stomach hurt, then his head, and eventually he said that everything hurt. By the time we got to the doctor he had a fever of 103 and he has pretty much slept the day away. Now, the dreaded throwing up has started.
The doctor prescribed Tamiflu but the pharmacy told me the earliest I could get it was tomorrow. They showed no sympathy for the fact that this was a child. I called around and a different pharmacy said they could fill the prescription within an hour. I called pharmacy #1 to ask them to fax it over and suddenly they can have it done in an hour too (figures!). I am hoping that the medicine will help lessen the duration of the illness.
He got very mad when his sister said he had swine flue. He said "I do not! I have H1N1."
So, I am sitting here watching my baby like a hawk. This promises to be a stressful night (weekend?).

Hi Stacey! It's our hope that your baby recovers very soon. It's not easy for a mother to watch helplessly when her child is not feeling well. You did the right thing by doing all in your power to get the medication needed for him.... seems we always have to fight to get service doesn't it?
Oh goodness, nothing worse than a sick child. Hope things improve quickly and everyone is back on track. BTW- my partner/granddaughter has been checking on the internet and finding the HINI flu shot spots for her kids. The other week she got to a place at 3am for her sons (opened at 9) but she was early enough in line he got it. Now she has to do it all over again as it has to be given in two steps. And tonite she and hubby are going to get in line at 1am for themselves. Crazy I know but they are getting them. Hey it would make a great blog entry if only she blogged LOL
Oh Stacey-Ann, I'm sorry to hear your little boy is sick! I do hope he gets to feeling better, it may be long weekend! I hope the Tami-flu works and he is back in the pink very soon!
Robert - thanks
Diane - It is really hard to watch him helplessly
Martha - I still can't decide if I want to get the vaccine for myself
Mary - I have a feeling it is going to be a long weekend.
Stacey Ann, I hope the little guy is feeling better! Have you tried chicken soup?
Stacey Ann,
I am so sorry to hear about your son, but I think his answer to his sister is priceless. Even when they are sick they are still sibilings!
I wish him a speedy recovery. My daughter is a teenager. She had it a month ago. The tamifluhelped so much. Good job taking him in quickly & being persistent with the pharmacist!
Patricia - he seems to be feeling much better now
Sybil - I thought his comment was hilarious
Amy - The Tamiflu seemed to help. How long was your daughter sick?
Stacey - I had to stop by for a second read and this is very sad and I have decided to feature this post at one of my sadder groups at Activerain .................
SAD AT ACTIVERAIN
VB ;o)
Thanks for the feature Robert. Thankfully he is feeling much better. It was a frightening few days just because we were not sure what to expect.
Isn't it amazing how companies can have everything ready to go when you're ready to take your business elsewhere? I might let them fill it, but that would probably be the last time, too.
Jim - I did let them fill it but NEVER again will I go there. Especially since they also made a mistake on the prescription instructions and had we followed them we would have given him 5x the dose he was supposed to get.
Stacey-Ann, What is worse is having a sick baby who can't tell you what is going on! My heart goes out to your little one. My 7 year old just had a bad stomach bug, it only lasted 24 hours.
