Since we have had children we have established some Christmas traditions that I truly treasure. Christmas is usually spent at our home in Maryland with my husband's family (his parents and his sister and her family). This year we have three kids in the house and so there were even more presents. it is a great joy to watch my kids playing with their cousin and enjoying their family. It is heartwarming to see the glee in children's eyes as they see the mountains of presents that belong to them. This morning my 4 year old son woke up and looked over at the fireplace, saw the cookies were gone and that his stocking was full and yelled "He Is Real!!"
Despite the contentment that Christmas always brings I can't help but find myself longing for a good old Jamaican Christmas. We haven't been to Jamaica for Christmas in about 6 years. I am longing for cool breezes, firecrackers on the lawn, and my mom's ham baking on Christmas eve. I usually see my family for several weeks in the Summer, however, I ALWAYS miss them tremendously on Christmas morning.
If we were in Jamaica rather than winding down our evening watching tv we would be preparing to go out to a party with our friends (leave the kids with grandma) or heading as a family to our third, fourth, of fifth party stop for the day. The carefree, fun loving, tropical lifestyle is unbeatable at this time of the year.
As I head to bed after a wonderful Christmas with my family it is with a bit of nostalgia as i wish that there was a way for me to have my Jamaican Christmas too.

The thought of Christmas in a nice tropical paradise sounds funny to me. But the real Christmas is in your heart and with your family, to each his own.
Merry Christmas.
Stacey-Ann...I'm dreaming with you! Merry Christmas!
Cheron
A warm Christmas Day. I have never had a "Jamaican Christmas, but I am game to try it.
Hi Stacey,
The only way to make your wish for a Jamaican Christmas come true is to make it happen. Plan it, save towards it and just do it. I spent one Christmas in NY after starting a new job, 9 Months prior. And it was torture! I was not married, was used to going to Jamaica for Christmas every year before that but had to spend this one in NY.
It does not mean that you can't have a great Christmas in NY or Maryland, but its just being with your family and perhaps enjoying the traditions that you grew up with.
Patricia - It was a nice day
Gary - I'll keep dreaming
Gene - The thought of a cold Christmas is what used to be strange to me
Cheron - come join me next year
Ellie - There's nothing like it
Stephanie - I definitely miss the traditions. The money is not the problem it's the logistics of going away at this time of the year
Hi Stacey-Ann, your Jamaican Christmas sounds so delightful! I can understand missing your family and the Island this time of year. You described it beautifully!
Never having experienced a Jamaican Christmas before, I long with you.
Mary - My nostalgia will kick in big time again on New Year's Eve
Dawn - you have to try it at least once.
