This past weekend I was out showing property with a buyer and his mom. We ended up looking at a townhome in Howard County, MD. The description indicated that the home had 3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and 2 half bathrooms.
The house was very strangely laid out with each room on a different level. When we made it to the basement we realized that we had only seen 2 bathrooms. The buyers and I were perplexed as to why the MLS mentioned so many bathrooms when I opened a closet in the basement. The door had slats and I assumed that I would find the washer and dryer or the hot water heater. However, there was the third bathroom.
There was silence and then all three of us started laughing out loud. My buyer's mom took pictures. Who would put a bathroom in a closet? There was no way to sit on the toilet AND close the closet door. I guess privacy was not a premium for these sellers.
Kinda makes you wonder where the 2 half baths that we never found were hidden.

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!
Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed!

Hah! YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A PIX AND POSTED IT!
Yep, I've seen that kind of thing...a small closet under a staircase, and they squashed a toilet in there...
Also, I showed a home last year with only l bathroom, it was in the basemet, and it was really just the toilet in the middle of the basement! no privacy...I took a pix, I should post that for a wordless wed!
Stacy, I once saw a bathroom as an extension of the kitchen. It was hilarious. when I went back to the listing agent and made a comment, he exclaimed 'What do you want for $30,000.?'
I have seen some strange things also, and a few listings that the agent just missed things. I have been in atleast two listings of the same agent, that had missed a bathroom. Now that is a thorough agent!
Dr Stacey-Ann...
Did you look in the fireplace or the attic? Those half baths had to be somewhere!
My uncle installed a toilet into their coat closet on the first floor of their home when my aunt was pregnant with their first child. Very funny to go to the closet when you are at their house, and then you have to go to the kitchen to wash your hands. My kids get the biggest charge from going to the closet. Worked for my aunt and uncle, made my aunt very happy. I'm sure when they to to sell everyone will find the closet bathroom eccentric.
When I lived in a flat in Paris I had a really strange layout. The water closet was just that - where the coat closet probably was a 100 years ago. It was only a toilet and a window - and the only one that had a view of the Eiffel Tower!
The room did not have a sink - that was down at the end of the hall right in front of the bedroom. The tub was the only place to bathe and it only had a funky hand-held for showering - so I would sit in the tub to take my shower.
Maybe crazy French people lived in the house.... ;-)
I've seen some strange stuff....that would be one for the books.
I've actually seen half-baths installed in coat closets on many occasions. Most were tiny for sure, but did add value to the homes.
Pat - I had left my phone in the car. You should post a pic of the basemnet toilet
Terri - A bathroom in the kitchen is just gross
Aaron - In this case he may have over-stated the bathrooms
Richard - I though maybe the pantry...
Jon - I bet the kids would get a kick out of that.
Michael - funny. At least you could see the Eiffel tower while you used the closet :-)
Linda - it's amazing the amount of strange stuff we encounter in this job
Tom - I think I was most amazed that it was a full bath - toilet, sink and shower
