I just saw on CNN that the young lady who had acid thrown on her by a stranger admitted that she made up the entire story.
You have to wonder then, how did she get her face destroyed by acid? Was it self-inflicted? Why would she lie and even give a description of the African American woman who supposedly had attacked her? So many unanswered questions now remain.
It's a bit frightening just how psychologically disturbed some people must be. This lie has given her national recognition (I saw her on the Today show) and cost the local police department thousands of dollars. Not to mention, the fear that was struck in the hearts of many when thinking about a possible random attacker on the loose.
We are constantly hearing these kinds of stories and the psychologist in me can't help but be fascinated by what makes these people tick.

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!
Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed!

I to come from the same background as a psychology assistant and I am sure it was a cry out for attention .. it sounds borderline like.
Wow! I saw the original story, how can someone do that to themselves?!
That reminds me of the Temptations song. "The way you do the things you do." :o]

You do have to wonder what some people are thinking sometimes. Chances are, they aren't.
Wow! I watch the news a few times per day and haven't even heard about this. Very sad when someone needs that kind of attention.
Unfortunately, people have learned that even bad press gets you money and fame. Look at the whole "Balloon Boy" incident earlier this year in Colorado.
Stacey Ann,
When you find out what makes them tick...let the rest of us know. It's pretty scary.

A young girl in our area was recently "outed" after she had been pretending to have cancer. She even shaved her head and cut her eyelashes. There had been fundraising benefits for her and media attention.
Of course now that she has been found not to have cancer she is getting more media attention. Very sad situation in both cases.
Yup, a strange story. Her burns didn't mesh with forensics. There was nothing on her shirt, or hands. Anyone that has this type of attack has tell-tale signs, and she just didn't have them. Investigators ain't stupid. Funny how the media runs with stories, and came up with all kinds of "profile" for the woman who did this -- yeah, right! The woman who did this WAS the victim herself.
Stange news article! And very random, but a sad story for sure!
Stacey, I wonder what her day to day life must be like to have had to cry out for attention like that, my prayers are with that person
People really do strange things for attention I guess. Hopefully they aren't friends of ours!
I can't imagine that someone would put themselves through this much pain for attention - WOW
Hello Stacey and I am so sad I haven't been around to moderate this group! I know this is a old post but a very SAD one at that, and I have featured it at one of the saddest groups around Activerain ...
