Soar with the angels my friend.

I woke up this morning to find a text message that my friend had passed away overnight.  We were all on alert from last week but that didn't soften the blow any.

My beautiful friend, Monique, has valiantly fought breast cancer for many, many years.  She taught all of us who knew her so many lessons about perseverance and tenacity.  She never gave up.  Her spirits were strong all the way.

She had her first problems with her breasts when we were kids.  At the time I certainly didn't understand what was going on but another friend and I spent that entire Summer with her first at the hospital and then later when she was recuperating at home.

Her cancer diagnosis came when she was 27.  Since then she fought valiantly to beat this disease.  She was 36 when she finally went to rest.

She was such an integral part of my early childhood and high school years.  We had drifted apart in later years as I had moved away.  I am grateful for social media that allowed us to reconnect over the past 5 years.  I got to re-learn what a beautiful person she was and to be inspired by her love of life and her spirit that never waned.

Words can never express how proud I am to have been her friend.

Hi Stacey~  I am so sorry about the loss of your childhood friend.  I bet she too was blessed by your friendship!  Prayers to her family at this time, and may Monique rest in peace.

I am sorry for your loss.  Breast Cancer claims so many amazing women every year.

Oh Stacey,  I cried today as I read this.  I cried for you, for your friend and her family and for all the families that are losing loved ones to this terrible disease.  How poignant that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hopefully Mon's story will touch someone and save a life. I pray that a cure will be found sooner than later.  You were blessed to have known each other.  God Speed.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Stacey-Ann.  Sometimes we don't realize 'til this happens how much one individual contributes to our world...  It can create quite a hole in our soul to lose someone like this.  Cancer is such a cruel disease!
