Chilean Mining Rescue A Testament to the Human Spirit

Like so many people I sat glued to the TV last night to watch the first of 33 miners emerge from the mine that they have been trapped in for over 2 months.  I wasn't sure what to expect but he emerged from the rescue capsule looking clean, freshly shaven and none the worse for the wear.  There were tears in my eyes as I watched him embrace his son.  The second miner emerged even more jubilant and exuberant.  Since then, there have been 11 rescues in total with 22 miners remaining.

I am in awe of the rescue workers who have worked tirelessly to ensure that this rescue was possible 2 months ahead of their originally projected schedule.  The selfless nature of the people who have worked day and night to prepare the rescue shaft and the amazing rescue workers who agreed to be sent down into the shaft to assist the miners is inspiring.

Watching the miners emerge one by one and the excitement that erupts with each new rescue is the most heart-warming thing I have seen in many years.

For us here in the US, this mining rescue has given us a much needed break from the political crap that is constantly on the television.  Instead of focusing on tea party vs. democrats, or who will control the house, which politician said what, or will the housing market ever recover, we finally get to focus on the things that are really important - that is the sanctity of life and the tenacity of the human spirit.

I hope that the remaining miners are rescued without incident and that each of these men is able to recover physically and emotionally from this ordeal without too many long-term complication.

It is an amazing feat for both the rescue and the ability to survive all that time. Our own troubles pale in comparison.  I too hope the rest of the rescue is successful as well.

I agree, it sure has been nice to read about this in the paper and by-pass election year politics.

God is good. It's been an amazing project and the dedication of the workers committed to saving the miners is awe inspiring. Life is sacred and it is nice to be reminded of that fact. Makes you put things in their proper perspective...

Amen! Those trapped miners are so blessed to be alive but how amazing what the Mining Company went through to save them. Cudos to them for not giving up and taking such care with everything. And they are out way before the estimated date of Christmas!

It has been an incredibly fascinating - and inspiring - story!  I wonder if there was ANYONE not watching the rescue?  It was simply a wonderful story with a lot of heroes.
