Holiday Lights in the Neighborhood!!!

My favorite holiday tradition is one that started by accident.  My kids and I love to drive through the neighborhoods to see the holiday lights that people have decorating their homes.  It all began with us driving home from daycare in the evenings and we would try different routes to see what new lights we could find.

We no longer drive home from daycare so now we make special efforts to drive in different neighborhoods to see the decorations.

We kicked off our 2010 holiday light hunting season tonight by driving through some neighborhoods in Bowie, MD.

We found this awesome home in the Pointer Ridge neighborhood.

There weren't many houses decorated yet but this one made the drive all worthwhile!  The side of the home was even gift wrapped!

Can't wait to see what other awesome decorations this season will bring.

Our neighborhood in Monaca, Pennsylvania was known for the beautifully decorated homes. Cars would drive through the neighborhood just to see them. Over time, it's changed. Although there are still some nicely decorated properties, it's nothing like it used to be. Sad...

It's a good way to make a home stand out, any experience with having your listings decorated with lights to enhance the traffic?

I love, love, love driving around looking a the parents took us out as soon as we could understand what we were looking at and it has been a family tradition ever since!  Thanks for the great photos!

My daughter and I do the same thing. Sometimes we take one or two of her friends. We make a whole night of it and have dinner. It's great together time.

Stacey That's one of my favorite childhood memories living in north Jersey.  There was one neighborhood which was very competitive...and gorgeous!  Going right after dinner to see all the lights, my sister and I under the blankets in the back seat, I'm smiling!   Nice pictures and what a great family thing to do!

Awesome photos Stacey-Ann. Just came back into town after being away for Thanksgiving and noticed the pretty lit yards are starting to pop up. I'm looking forward to going out and taking some super snaps too.

Stacey Ann,

Lights are sparse here in Crofton too. Looks like next week might be the start for the season. Of course my house will have my 13' inflatable Santa again...much to my wife's chagrin.

Wow! Those look great. We have a few lights up in the area but no yard displays yet. Y'all are on the ball in MD!

Our Village in Westhampton Beach here on Eastern Long Island offers prizes to the best decorated Business and Residence with a judging contest by of village beautification committee held on December 19th... it always makes for a few interesting light shows around town.

What a great tradition. During Halloween my son and I played "spot the pumpkin" and we have started to do this with lights. Keep updating pictures and join the group "Christmas Photo Challenge"

OHOH, Stacey-Ann, I may lose my "Griswold" status to this home.  Isn't it fun, though?

I've done the same thing in the past.  One night after going out to dinner, we drove through some neighborhoods with our neighbors.  It was a lot of fun and something I thought about doing again.  My have to get the camera out tonight to take some neighborhood photos.  Thanks for the suggestion!
