Empty Chairs: Much more than a story about child abuseEmpty Chairs: Much more than a story about child abuse by Stacey Danson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a disturbing account of a child's sexual abuse at the hands of her mother. There were times where I felt the story was unbelievable but I think that was partly because I didn't want it to be true. I didn't want to believe that there are people who endure this kind of brutality. The book is very raw. It's not written by a literary genius but by a person wanting to get her story out. There are parts where the story is shocking! My only complaint was that I found the book ended abruptly. I wanted to know more of the story - I really wanted to know what became of her mom. I just realized that she did recently write a sequel so i'm off to download that one now.

This is the sequel to Empty Chairs. I was interested to find out what happened to Stacey. The book provides some closure. I do find it a bit glossy. Her first book was raw and real and this felt a bit sugar coated. The author does not appear comfortable with discussing emotion so it made the story feel robotic.

I am intrigued, wrote down the titles, although as a mother of 2, it sounds like I am going to end up not reading them, since I would be too upset and end up in a terrible and "mad at the world" kind of mood after reading them!

Endre - funny to think that reading is becoming a lost art.

Tanja - I'm a mother of 2 as well and I think it was very good to read this.  I did feel "mad at the world" in parts but also felt grateful that I have been able to provide a loving home for my own kids.
