Happy 50th Anniversary Jamaica!

Today my beloved Jamaica celebrates 50 years of independence.  Though there have been many hardships along the way the 50 year marks a milestone that have made Jamaicans around the world incredibly proud.  We are a young nation that has left many marks on the world.

The beauty of the island nation is undeniable.

However, the real beauty of Jamaica lies in the spirit and tenacity of the people and the richness of the culture.  I am always amazed that wherever I am people have heard of my home country.

Jamaica is a small island in the Caribbean.  The island measures 144 miles in length though it's mountainous terrain gives it much more livable surface area than that size would suggest.  The population is approximately 2.8 million people.

It is amazing that from such a small place so much culture originates.  Some of the most recognizable cultural figures of our time have come from my beautiful home.  Who hasn't heard of Bob Marley or Usain Bolt?

This anniversary is made extra special by the crowning achievements of our track athletes in the 2012 Olympics.  100m Gold for both women and men belong to Jamaican athletes.  Track is the unofficial national sport in Jamaica so it's no surprise to us that we have been able to dominate in the sprints for the past few years.

Today I wil beam with pride as the Jamaican National Anthem is played for all at the Olympics during the 100m medal ceremony.  It seems a fitting tribute to have our national anthem played throughout the world on this our 50th Anniversary.

Though I happily live in another country and love my life here, the land of my birth will forever remain the land of my heart!

Happy Anniversary. It is indeed a culturally rich county and while I have never been there I do love the food and the people that I have met

I vacationed in Jamica about 30 years ago!  What a wonderfully beautiful country!  We stayed at a little hotel in Ocho Rios.... very pleasant.  We  hooked up with a guy who worked at the hotel who had a couple of days off who took us around in our rented car.  Unless things have changed a lot I think I might stay at a resort the next time I go but we did have a great time!!  Most of the people we met were very accomodating and genuinely warm and friendly.

Jamaica is definitely on my bucket list, looks like such an amazing country, and now officially home to the two fastest individuals in the world! Congrats on the anniversary!

I have been to Jamaica a few times on cruise ships. Beautiful county, people and beaches, but those mountains are a problem. Great coffee also, congratulations Jamaica..

Stacey-Ann,  Thank you for sharing your love of the country of your birth.  I am listening to your national anthem as I type my comment.

We visited Jamaica a few years ago and talk about going back.  Yes, love the people and the food.

Congratulations to the Jamaican athletes.

Stacey-Ann, We have visited Jamaica several times while we were on a cruise.  We just had a great time.  Enloyed the shopping too!  My sister in law had her wedding their 3 years ago.  We had a blast, climbed the large waterfall (can't think of the name of it)  Love Jamaica and that jerk chicken.
