2012 Reading Challenge Summary

In 2011 I challenged myself to read 25 books and made it to 21.

In 2012 I gave myself the same challenge and managed to read 39 books!

My favorites for the year were:

Elizabeth the Queen:  The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman - this was a recommendation from a blogging buddy and became the first book read by my new neighborhood book club.  Very emotional read.

Love.... From both sides by Nick Spauliding - I actually laughed out loud repeatedly as I read this one.

One Pink Line by Dina Silver

Empty Chairs by Stacy Danson - Memoir of child abuse

Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray

The Little Prisoner:  A Memoir by Jane Elliott - Memoir of child abuse

Defending Jacob by William Landay

Burned alive:  A victim of the law of men by Souad

I read a variety of books this year including several memoirs and biographies, legal thrillers, and even read a few "chick-lit" type books.  2 of the 39 books were books my 7 year old was reading for his school book reports :-)

The only book that I managed to finish reading that I thought was just horrendous and a complete waste of my time was Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James.  The book was actually painful!  I read the Fifty Shades trilogy and I found the first one interesting enough but then it was steadily down hill from there.  The only good thing was that I discovered that you can borrow e-books for the library so at least she didn't make any money off of me with this terrible, terrible book!

I am challenging myself to read 40 books in 2013 (not including any of Sebastian's book report books).  It's been fun to recapture my love for reading over the past 2 years and I really enjoy knowing that with my kindle I always have a book with me.

Stacey Anne,

39 books read is a heck of an accomplishment. With your day job, real estate, and your family...when do you find the time?

Stacey-Anne, you obviously don't have a TV Set!

I am also a book lover... but I didn't keep a count, maybe I will start keeping track in 2013.

   Happy New Year!

Rich - Usually I read at the expense of sleeping :-)

Fred - I definitely prefer to read than watch tv most of the time.

I enjoy reading the same books as my daughter. I also recommend certain books for her. It's easy to do with the Kindle. I just buy the book for her, and it appears on the Kindle. Wonderful. Good luck with your challenge.

Dr. Stacey-Ann,  I love to read. There are days when I am taking down time I will read for most of the day and evening. Reading serves as an escape for me. It simply takes me away from the daily "grind" and allows me to take a mini-vacation in my living room.  I wish you all the best with your challenge.
