I Walk Because I Can!

I was first diagnosed with MS 7 years ago.  At the time I remember feeling very overwhelmed and frightened - having no idea what the future might hold for me and my health.

About 5 years ago I walked in my first MS walk and I made a commitment that as long as I was able I would walk each year.

When I go to the walk and see people with varying levels of movement impairment in helps reinforce my attitude that I need to be grateful for my relative good health.  No point feeling sorry for myself about the fact that I have been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease.  Instead, I need to focus on being grateful for every day that I am able to function with only minimal intrusions.

Fatigue is my biggest problem and sometimes it is a struggle to push through and do everything I need to do.  However, when I do get it done it does create a great feeling of empowerment.

The 2013 MS Walk will be held in Bowie, April 13, 2013.  The route is 3.5 miles long but with good company it goes very quickly.  My good friend Briget McGee (AKA Mortgage Mama) has joined me and we had a great time.

I'm hoping some of my AR friends will support me as I walk in the 2013 walk.

Consider joining me on the walk - great way to get some exercise while supporting a great cause - Bowie Walk MS team Road Warriors.

If you aren't local or able to join me I hope some will consider making a small donation to my team.

I can understand the fear when you learned the news.  Our youngest son has MD and I suspect we had a lot of similary feelings.

I hope that you thoroughly enjoy your walk.  It's almost midnight so I'll check you links within the next day or so to see what I can do about supporting your team.  (I enjoy Briget's posts also.)

Every one of us should be walking "because we can."   I will make a donation to support your walk, also as a thank-you for the Healthy Challenge.  I hope the group will continue past the end of the Challenge, because many of us won't yet have reache our goals.

Hi Stacy,

One of my dearest friends, like my sister, has MS and it is such a debilitating disease and she has not been able to walk for 4 years now and her hands are now feeling the effects. I sure hope they find a cure soon and I am glad you are able to work through your MS. Stacy, I hope you do not get any worse and start getting better. We must all support the MS Walk as it is nationwide. I will be there.

I agree with Dianne, we should continue to post healthy ideas, good results, and inspirational stories.

Stacy, I would definitely be walking with you ... I have a good friend that has MS and some days it is very hard for her to walk...but she has such a great attitude and is always up.

I have a friend that has MS and I swear to you, had she not told me that she had it, and then someone else shared what having it meant, then I would have never known what she lived with. WOW! Prayers for your good health!!
