I was under the impression that blogs that were coded as Members Only would not be seen by the public. However, I just had someone looking at my blog and they were definitely able to see the members only posts. I realize I must be doing something incorrect. Is it that once I post to a group it automatically becomes public?
I would appreciate any help that I can get. I'm slowly learning this active rain stuff but still really new at it.
Thanks.

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!
Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed!

My understanding is that if the little scroll box at the bottom of your blog (whn posting) is set to members only then it does not show to anyone who is not a member of AR or logged into AR. Try logging out of AR and going to your blog and see what happens. AR has had some issues lately...hopefully you will be able to get this worked out.
Could the person who was looking at your blog maybe have been a member? Or had you maybe logged in on that person's computer?
When I first started on AR, back in the Stone Age :-), I made several posts Members Only, then at some point, I decided what-the-heck ... make everything public, why not let the whole world see, bring 'em on!!.....
Stacey-Ann,
I have wondered this myself.....I comment on many "Member Only " posts.
Yikes!
I would contact AR about this. It's important that we know!
Yep this is kinda scary! I have posted some very sensative topics that I did not want the public to see... SO this is something that I need to know the facts on! Thanks for posting!
I was pondering that same issue yesterday, searched the site for the answer, but couldn't find one - I am anxious to know that one
Mary, Cheryl, Dan, BethAnn,
I double checked the posts and the box at the end was set to Member's Only and then I posted to specific groups. The posts even have "Member's Ony" next to the name of the blog. I just tried from a different computer in the office where I wasn't logged in and I could see my member's only posts. Try it and see if this happens to you too.
Steve - That's my feeling exactly.
Susan - Hopefully, we'll get an answer now.
I have the same issue. I'll be parked to see what others say on this. Good post.
I thought "Members Only" was only seen by members, too. I hope this is the case. I will wait & see what comments you receive... :)
Howdy Stacey
A members only post can be read by a non member they can open the post, and they can't read the comments made on it or make a comment to the post.
I hope this helps ya.
I have had the same thing happen to me, I would like to know about this myself.
Stacey-Ann, I don't know about the viewing of a member's only post, but it was my understanding that the crawlers didn't look at those posts.
Hi Stacey-Ann,
I think we were all under the assumption that Members only were for members only. So this was a good question.
All the best!
Hi All
I did the search again and my member's only posts did not show up this time. I wonder if its just glitches that made it accidentally visible. Strange.
It sounds like glitches to me... or it's not clear enough. Members only should mean it can be seen and commented on only by members. If that's not the case, it would be good if Active Rain commented on that in their next newsletter.
Good to know I'm glad you posted this!
Thank you for sharing

I have found that they can see this, but they just cannot make comments to the page.
Hi Stacey-Ann, That is a good question and after reading all the comments I am still not sure what the answer is. Anyway, I believe this is the first time that I have made contact with you, so I would like to say hello and Welcome. I look forward to networking with you in the future. Have A Great Day!!!
That is good information to know. I am new and am still working out my questions and answers. Pat
