From Yaad by Tracey Jackson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
From Yaad is a short story about a woman born and grown in the United States to Jamaican parents who inherits property in Jamaica.
The story is entertaining. The dialogue is very authentically Jamaican. However, I think the story was rushed. There is enough there for this to have been fleshed out into a full-length novel so that the characters could have been better developed and the storyline more realistic. As a born and grown Jamaican myself I know that none of this could have taken place in the speed that it happened in the story.
There were several parts where From Yaad could have benefitted from a good editor – name mix-ups, spelling errors, etc.
Overall, I’m glad I picked this up and found the premise interesting and engaging.
