The convergence of four separate lives through the reappearance of an ancient, healing artifact is explored in the narrative IKONA by M.D. Dixon. Spanning a century and multiple continents, the story observes the impact of this icon on those who find themselves within its mysterious field of resonance. It is a contemplative study on how individuals navigate the complexities of their own destinies within a larger, unfolding reality.
In cities like Sydney, Hong Kong, Atlanta, and Berlin, and within the quiet of a post-apocalyptic Siberian tundra, a mysterious Russian Orthodox cross begins to surface. This holy icon, possessing inexplicable healing power, draws four strangers into its resonance across different lifetimes and fractured timelines. Kate Davies witnesses the icon’s strange effect in Atlanta, while Finley Minor in Sydney is haunted by visions of possible futures. Jia Li MacPherson, a former thief, holds secrets that others would kill to keep hidden. Wallace Deng Moroz, a monk living a century in the future, clings to visions of a cure in a world nearly ended by a genetic engineering catastrophe.
In a dangerously polarized landscape, their convergence feels destined, yet it is shaped by their personal choices. As they move deeper into the cross’s influence, they must decide which version of the future they will inhabit and what they are willing to surrender to reach it.
