Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am struggling to decide how I feel about Like Mother Like Daughter. My rating is probably 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

The writing is engaging and I found myself immediately interested in the story. The story is told from the perspective of the mother who has vanished and the daugher who is trying to find her.
There are also therapist notes, journal entries, text message strings, and legal case notes peppered in. At times it felt like it was too much information and ended up being distracting rather than helping to illuminate the story.

There are also several different plot tlines and way too many characters. It was difficult to follow all the different tangents and several of them did not feel entirely necessary.

Some parts of the story I was able to guess and then other parts I did not figure out until it was revealed. The end was a let down for me and didn’t seem to unfold naturally from the story.

Overall, Like Mother Like Daughter is well written and engaing. If you like psychological thrillers there is lots of enjoy in this book. In general I liked it I just wasn’t blown away by it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the published for allowing me an advanced copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for my honest review.
