After leaving Riverside we flew to San Francisco. This was my son’s first time in the Bay Area, but I had visited in the past.
The first day we were there we headed out to Santa Cruz. The drive through the mountains was lovely and reminded me at times of parts of Jamaica, where I grew up. UC Santa Cruz was a beautiful, wooded campus with breathtaking views of the ocean in the distance.
We also drove to the beach in Santa Cruz and briefly wandered along the boardwalk.
The downside of the drive was definitely the traffic on the way back into San Francisco.
The next morning we went on a tour of the University of San Francisco. I was blown away by the beauty of the campus. We also had this amazing experience where a professor stopped to talk to us. He told us why he loved teaching there and they he offered to show us the math department. Two professors were there and they both stopped to talk to us and tell my son about the math program there. If the college decision was all mine this interaction would have sealed the deal for me.
Our final day in California was also Opening Day for the San Francisco Giants. We are big baseball fans so we spent our day at the ballpark. The views of the Bay while in your seats is fantastic.
All in all, it was a fun trip filled with fun moments and priceless memories made with my son. These memories are even more treasured as he is getting ready to leave for college.
By the way, weeks after we got back he made his decision and he is headed to the University of San Diego!
