I traveled to San Diego in August to move my son into college. Much of the time was spent in the running around associated with that. Once again, we stayed at the marina and the beauty of San Diego was undeniable.
After the big move in I had some time to kill. I initially drove back to the marina and walked around there, even saw some folks get married with the bay in the background.
I decided to drive myself to the beach. A quick google search had me headed towards Coronado Beach. It was a cute drive over the bridge that I could see from my hotel. It was a lovely day, weather there is definitely a plus. I was underwhelmed by the actual beach, but I am hard to please with beaches – I am an island girl after all. Still, I enjoyed walking along the beach and taking in the activity.
The next day after visiting my son for a bit I had the afternoon to myself before flying home in the morning. I decided to visit the USS Midway Museum. This is a decommissioned aircraft carrier and it was amazing to see all the exhibits and aircrafts they have on board.
I was especially amazed when standing on the runway and getting a feeling for the sheer magnitude of these aircraft carriers. Going below deck was also very interesting and I learned quite a bit about what life aboard these ships must be like.
I didn’t have enough time to see all the exhibits so I would definitely return the next time I am in San Diego. After disembarking I spent some time walking around Navy Pier enjoying the hustle and bustle, the cute vendors, and the art.
Overall, I didn’t see very much of San Diego but I did enjoy what little I saw. Since I left my heart there, I will be back and able to keep exploring this beautiful part of the country.
