Despite frequent trips to Jamaica, it had been maybe 20 years since I had been to Negril. The Skylark Hotel was chosen by my friend as the venue for her 50th birthday celebration.
My first contact with the staff began when I called to make my reservation. I asked the lady if there were lots of lizards on property. My fear of lizards is legendary. The lady answered that though they are obviously lizards on property there were not usually any seen in the rooms. She also assured me that if a wayward one should appear someone would be on-site 24 hours to save me. lol.
When we arrived, we were greeted by an offer of a drink – fruit punch or rum punch and a cold towel. These were much appreciated since it was remarkably hot for April. Sebby completed the check in process, and she was wonderful. My brother and I interacted with her the next day as well and she was so very pleasant. The gentleman who brought my bags up even checked in with me when he saw me the next day to make sure no lizards had scared me anywhere lol.
Skylark has direct access to the famous 7-mile beach and a stunningly beautiful view of the sunset. Each evening, I sat transfixed watching the wonders of nature, the beautiful sunset and then the equally beautiful moon over the water.
We ate several meals at the on-site restaurant, Miss Lilly’s. I was amazed by how well trained the staff was. They were all very familiar with the menu and could help me navigate the ingredients to cater to my dairy intolerance. One night the waiter actually brought the chef so that we could discuss ways he could tweak the dish to accommodate my dietary needs. He made the most delicious dairy-free jerk chicken pasta that I was happy to eat 2 nights in a row.
Isaac took great care of us on the beach during the days, bringing us water and drinks and anything else we needed. Be sure to order the fish sandwich at lunch. It is yummy and I ate it 2 days in a row as well. One of my friends had a brush with a jellyfish and Isaac was there immediately with warm water and apple cider vinegar which quickly remedied the situation.
There is an on-site spa. I did not visit the spa but several of my friends did and seemed to greatly enjoy their massage experiences.
Overall, I can’t recommend this gem of a hotel highly enough. If your travel takes you to Negril, please check out the Skylark Hotel.
