The Hidden Heir by Samuel Lockwood
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book was brought to my attention by the author who provided me with a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
The story had a very interesting premise – JFK and Marilyn Monroe have a love child who is kept hidden from the world. This is my first book that focuses on an alternative telling of history. I think one of the difficulties with the story for me was in picturing some of the characters the way they are portrayed in this story rather than what I think I know of their character.
The beginning chapters of the book were very engaging, and I did find myself invested in the story and the characters and their outcome. I found some of the elements of the story a bit unsophisticated which I think is a reflection of a newer writer. I do think as he grows into his craft he will produce even more creative stories.
Overall, The Hidden Heir is an interesting and quick read based on an engaging premise. Despite some stilted dialogue at times and unlikely events I am glad that this book and genre was brought to my attention. I look forward to additional work by this author.
